EARTH-Utah offers a unique, interdisciplinary curriculum for grades 4-12. The full program includes five in-class lessons and three field trips, with one visit each full month of the school year (September – December and February – May). All lessons and activities are specifically tailored for each grade, and are guided by the state core curriculum requirements for that grade. A rough outline of our lesson plans is provided below:
4th-6th grades
Lesson 1 – Intro, natural resources, ecosystem connectedness
Lesson 2 – Field trip
Lesson 3 – Air: what makes it dirty, why this matters, the role of plants, what we can do
Lesson 4 – Water: water cycle, what do we use it for, why is there not enough of it
Lesson 5 – Field trip, air survey
Lesson 6 – Humans and the environment, sustainability
Lesson 7 – Field trip, water survey
Lesson 8 – Closing, review, personal responsibility
7th-9th grades
